I’ve been using snippets from my WIP currently called STOPPING BULLETS. My main character is a young woman, Justine, with a talent for stopping bullets and moving other things with her mind. She lives a secretive life to avoid becoming a lab rat somewhere. But her secret isn’t going to stay secret much longer.

Last week I started scene 2, with Justine at work at the diner where she’s a waitress. She was distracted, because of everything that happened the night before, and the other waitress was trying to talk to her. She was oblivious. (For the full story so far, see my past SSS posts! The first one is here.) For context, the final line of that last post was “I shook my head. “Yeah…” What could I say?”

Here’s the next eight!

Finally table two cleared out. I wiped down the table, then filled up napkins and ketchup bottles. Maybe I could do the salt and pepper shakers too.“Girl, will you give it a rest? Who you think’s coming in, the First Lady? Every bottle in the place is full and the chrome’s so clean I need sunglasses for the glare.”“Just trying to keep busy.”  And trying not to throw up.

She a bit tense here. Just trying to make it through the night. Let me know what you think!

    • So glad you like it, JM! From these comments about her co-worker, I might have to increase her “screen time.” Though she does appear more later, she’s sort of in the background for a while. I’ll have to think about this. Thanks for the comment!
